Cosmetic Dermatology
What is Cosmetic Dermatology?
Cosmetic dermatology is the subspecialty of dermatology that concentrates on the diagnosis and treatment of aesthetic skin conditions. We offer a variety of minimally invasive, office-based procedures that can improve or slow down skin changes that naturally occur as we age.
At Dermatology Associates of Concord in Cambridge and Concord, Massachusetts, our goal is to refresh and improve your skin's appearance so that you can feel comfortable and confident in the way you look.
Both women and men can benefit from cosmetic dermatology. All of our cosmetic procedures are performed by our board-certified dermatologists with an advanced knowledge of cosmetic dermatology.
Why Choose a Dermatologist?
Many types of doctors, other medical providers, and aestheticians perform a number of cosmetic procedures. However, dermatologists are the ONLY ones educated specifically in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of conditions involving the skin. After completing medical school, dermatologists spend one year in a dermatology internship and then at least three years in a dermatology residency program.
Because of this extensive training, dermatologists have a complete and advanced knowledge of the skin and how to treat it. When you choose a dermatologist for your cosmetic skin needs, you can be confident that he or she has the education and skills to safely perform specific procedures relating to the skin and the medical background to manage any complications that may arise.
Conditions Treated
We offer screening, prevention, and treatment for aging skin, acne, sun spots, freckles, moles, and scars. We also offer services for wrinkles and creases, spider veins, and hair loss.
Ear piercing is available as well.
Procedures Performed
BOTOX®
Neurotoxins are a group of substances that are used in dermatology to reduce wrinkles, particularly those around the eyes and on the forehead, by blocking the connection between a nerve and its muscles.
One of the most popular neurotoxins is BOTOX® (botulinum toxin). Carefully injected in very tiny amounts, BOTOX weakens the affected muscles to soften frown lines, crow's feet, and other wrinkles. BOTOX has also been successful in controlling excessive perspiration of the underarms, hands, and feet.

Dermal Fillers
The most widely used substances for soft tissue augmentation, dermal fillers such as Juvederm®, Restylane®, Sculptra®, and others are injected below the skin to add volume and reduce wrinkles, creases, scars, and depressions. It’s a safe, noninvasive approach that enhances the skin's natural collagen and refines facial lines.

Sclerotherapy
The injection of a sclerosing, or hardening, solution into unwanted, enlarged spider veins of the legs can successfully cause them to collapse and disappear. In addition to providing cosmetic benefits, sclerotherapy may also reduce leg discomfort.

Chemical Peels
A variety of superficial, safe chemical peels (trichloroacetic acid or "TCA", glycolic acid, salicylic acid) are available for in-office anti-aging therapy. In addition, we can prescribe a personalized home care program including topical retinoids (Retin-A, retinol), vitamin C, alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic acid), and other products to reduce wrinkling and age spots.
