Body Contouring
At Dermatology Associates of Concord, we offer a number of body contouring services to help you trim fat and achieve the shape you’ve always desired. These options include:
CoolScuplting®
Emsculpt®
Exilis Ultra 360™
CoolSculpting®
CoolSculpting is the only FDA-cleared fat reduction treatment that uses controlled cooling to safely target and effectively eliminate diet- and exercise-resistant fat – without surgery or downtime. Results are proven, noticeable, and lasting, helping to make you look and feel great from every angle.
Science has shown that fat cells freeze at higher temperatures than surrounding tissues. That’s why CoolSculpting is designed to deliver precisely controlled cooling that gently and effectively targets the fat cells underneath your skin. These treated cells are crystallized (frozen) and subsequently die. Once that happens, your body gradually processes and eliminates these dead cells, resulting in a more sculpted you.
At Dermatology Associates of Concord, we develop a customized CoolSculpting treatment plan that addresses your problem areas and is tailored specifically to your body, as well as your goals and budget. Additional sessions may further enhance your results.
With CoolSculpting, we make it easy for you to just sit back, relax, and say goodbye to stubborn fat.
Results and patient experience may vary.
If you have had CoolSculpting in our office, please see the applicable post-care instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions About CoolSculpting®
After the area(s) to be treated are selected, the CoolSculpting device is positioned on your body and controlled cooling is applied. During your procedure, you don’t need to do a thing. Instead, you may choose to read, check your email, or even take a nap.
If you have noticeable bulges in certain areas of your body you’d like to get rid of, the CoolSculpting fat reduction procedure is specifically designed to reduce those areas of unwanted fat that have failed to respond to diet and exercise.
Bear in mind that, unlike gastric bypass surgery, the CoolSculpting procedure is not a weight loss solution for people who are obese. It is, however, a nonsurgical alternative to liposuction. The best way to know if CoolSculpting is right for you is to request a one-on-one consultation with one of our body contouring specialists.
While the cost of CoolSculpting treatment may vary depending on the areas being treated, the number of sessions needed, and your ultimate goals, we will help create a customized treatment plan that is not only tailored to your body and your goals, but also your budget.
The length of a CoolSculpting session will vary depending on how many areas are being treated during each visit. You may also require additional sessions in order to meet your goals.
Once the treated fat cells are crystallized, your body will process the fat and eliminate the dead cells. And once the treated fat cells have been eliminated, they’re gone for good.
As the cooling begins within the first few minutes, you will feel pressure and intense cold. This soon dissipates. In fact, many people read, watch videos, work on their laptop, or even take a nap during their CoolSculpting treatment.
Because it has been proven safe and effective as a treatment for nonsurgical fat reduction, the CoolSculpting procedure is FDA-cleared for the flanks (love handles), abdomen, and thighs, with over one million treatments performed worldwide.
You may experience deep pulling, tugging, pinching, numbness, or discomfort during the procedure. After the session is over, typical side effects include temporary numbness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, and pain. Rare side effects may also occur.
The CoolSculpting procedure is not for everyone. You should not undergo the procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. Neither is CoolSculpting a treatment for obesity. Your Dermatology Associates of Concord doctor can tell you if the CoolSculpting procedure is right for you.
The CoolSculpting procedure is completely nonsurgical, so typically you can return to your normal activities immediately after it’s over.
You may begin to notice changes as soon as 3 weeks after your treatment and experience the most dramatic results after 2 months. But your body will still be flushing out fat cells and will continue doing so for up to 4 to 6 months after treatment.
Not at all, although a healthy diet and regular exercise will help you maintain your results indefinitely.
It’s common for patients to take better care of themselves – and thus avoid weight gain – after they see results from their CoolSculpting treatment. However, if you start to regain weight, it may be distributed evenly all over your body, not just in the treated areas.1

Emsculpt®
This noninvasive, FDA-approved body contouring treatment is designed to build, strengthen, and tone the muscles in your abdomen, buttock, thighs, and arms. In fact, a 30-minute treatment can produce results equivalent to 20,000 sit-ups or squats.
It involves the use of high intensity, focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology in which a handpiece induces powerful muscle contractions that force the muscle to adapt and respond with a deep remodeling of its inner structure, thus building the muscle and sculpting your body.
Results and patient experience may vary.
Frequently Asked Questions About Emsculpt
The muscle contractions triggered by Emsculpt create a metabolic change in overlying fat that results in destruction of some of the fat cells. For the best results, four 30-minute treatment sessions are performed at least two days apart. Studies show that this results in an average 19 percent decrease in abdominal fat thickness and a 16 percent increase in muscle thickness.
The Emsculpt procedure can benefit anyone who wants to strengthen their abdominal, buttock, or thigh muscles, but those most likely to achieve satisfying results are those of normal weight who exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet.
You cannot undergo Emsculpt treatment if:
- You’re pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a cardiac pacemaker, defibrillator, implanted neurostimulator, drug pump, or electronic device
- You have orthopedic implants or joints or metal rods, pins, plates, or IUDs
- You have been prescribed blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder
- You have a history of hernia repair with mesh
- You have had recent surgery for an injury, damage, or tear to muscle or soft tissue in the area to be treated
- You are under the age of 18
Because your muscles undergo a vigorous series of contractions every few minutes over a total period of 30 minutes, it feels like you’ve undergone an intensive workout.
No. It’s a noninvasive treatment that doesn’t require recovery time or any pre- or post-preparation.
Your muscles will feel stronger after each Emsculpt session and your muscle mass will actually increase about 2 to 4 weeks following a 4-week series of treatments. As for the overlying fat, improvement is noticeable by about 3 months after the series is completed.
You can expect improved muscle tone to last at least 6 months, but you can maintain results longer if you exercise regularly. Due to fat cell destruction, fat loss in the abdominal area will be long-term. Nevertheless, many individuals report sustainable results by repeating Emsculpt treatments at 6-month intervals.
Exilis Ultra 360™
Exilis Ultra 360 is a relatively new body contouring treatment option that uses focused high frequency technology to firm sagging skin, reduce wrinkles, and eliminate fat – all without invasive surgery and no downtime.
With Exilis, the body contouring experts at Dermatology Associates of Concord can target problem areas of your body using a combination of heating and cooling to keep you comfortable while safely achieving the cosmetic results you desire without anesthesia, surgery, or recovery time.
Results and patient experience may vary.
Frequently Asked Questions About Exilis
The Exilis device is guided over the treatment area. You feel a warming sensation as energy is delivered to the deeper layers of your skin. It heats deep tissue while monitoring your skin’s temperature to ensure a comfortable and even treatment. The controlled heating redefines loose skin, smooths out wrinkles, and stimulates your natural collagen, thereby improving your skin’s laxity and texture.
Typically, Exilis treatment is done in 4 to 6 sessions, each conducted every two weeks, but you can have additional Exilis treatments if you wish. Each session only takes 20-30 minutes.
Exilis has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in dermatologic and aesthetic procedures with indications for noninvasive treatment of wrinkles after being tested in numerous clinical studies and proven to be safe and effective.
You may experience some pinkness in the treatment area, but it only lasts for about 15-30 minutes. Otherwise, there are no significant side effects with Exilis treatment.
You should increase your water intake on the day of treatment and the day after. Also, engaging in light exercise, such as walking, can enhance the cosmetic results.
Noninvasive Exilis treatment is recommended for anyone between the ages of 25 and 70+ who are seeking cosmetic improvement, especially in areas that show signs of aging and unhealthy lifestyle.
