Sclerotherapy in Concord & Cambridge, MA
Sclerotherapy is an injection of a detergent-based product used to treat small spider veins and large blue-green reticular veins. This procedure is minimally invasive and performed by one of our board-certified dermatologists.
Is Sclerotherapy Safe?
Sclerotherapy has been used for more than 100 years and is considered very safe. It is the "gold standard" of spider vein care, offering safe and permanent removal that may be more effective than laser treatments for this particular condition.
What to Expect From Sclerotherapy
During sclerotherapy, a very fine needle is used to inject the solution into the affected veins, which causes them to swell shut and close off completely. The procedure is brief, but afterward, you will remain in the office for up to 30 minutes to evaluate the results.
You can expect to wear bandages over the treated veins as well as compression stockings for a period of time. You will be able to resume normal activity afterward.
Repeat treatments may be necessary. Your doctor will let you know before you leave whether you need another treatment.
If you are having this procedure in our office, please see our Pre- and Post-Care Instructions for Sclerotherapy.
